Hi.I have orange hair

Okay okay so it’s not that bad.  It’s acceptable.  Probably.  Honestly, I don’t know what to think anymore.  I’m coming to believe that I may or may not be a hair snob.
Remember how I’ve been ombre the last few months?  Oh how I loved my ombre.  I decided though that it was too hard to maintain.  It was fading too quickly and when my roots started growing in there was this awful halo effect.  My roots looked grey!  Of this I was warned.  So I decided to ditch the ombre at get my blonde back.  MY blonde back.  The blonde I’ve always had.  The blonde that I love.
Instead I got this blonde…  In my book it’s pretty awful.  I think that’s why I’m a hair snob.  Because everyone is telling me that it’s not that bad.  And either everyone is just being super nice about it so that I don’t burst into tears right in front of them- awkward- or they’re not lying and I’m just a hair snob.
I must note.  My hair dresser is amazing and she did a fabulous job.  This is just part of the process.  BAH!

  1. Sorry, I couldn’t reply with the reply button for some reason! I’m in S. Korea for the next 3 years with my U.S. Air Force Husband. We’re out here with only a couple of hundred other American families (most US military in Korea is here without their families) we are here to help enforce the armistice between North and South Korea (well, by we I mean the US Military, my kids and I are probably not enforcing anything! 🙂 )

  2. it looks great now, but i totally understand..it’s so hard to get it back to the blonde you love!! i’ve gone so many different colors over the last year that i’m not sure i’ll ever be able to get it back to my blonde! i think part of what makes it perfect is that everytime i would get it highlighted it would make it better! like highlights over highlights ..ya know what i mean? anyways, girl don’t be so hard on yourself!! it looks fantastic!! and i love that braid! super cute!

  3. I thought I commented but I guess it never worked. I’m a hairstylist and I’d say go get a couple foils through the areas that you aren’t loving the color. It’ll brighten it up a bit and cut through some of the brassiness.

  4. It will probably be the right color next time, it takes a couple of time to go from brown to blonde. I do love your blonde hair though, it’s you for sure! When I dyed my hair really dark I also had the grey looking roots, weird and not fun. You look great!
    Merry Christmas!

  5. Thanks for the comments you guys. What in the world would I do without you?! You’ve totally made me feel like a million bucks. Even with my slightly orange hair! And even if you’re just being nice, I appreciate it ha ha!!

  6. Yes It is! Ive been dying my hair blonde for a while ( not currently, Im rocken the Ombre!) and every time I darkened it, and went back, I wanted to die! I hated the orange stage, but like you said its definatly a process 🙂

  7. I know exactly what you mean!! I’m super blonde and absolutely hate any yellowy brassy tones in my hair which I get when I decided I want a change then what to go back blonde. You’re hair does look great though! It’ll be back the way you love it in no time 🙂

  8. I’m just a person on the Internet who couldn’t see you burst into tears by telling you the truth. So, I will. 😉 I actually like this color much better than the ombré. I am not sure how much different your natural color is from this one, but over time you’ll get your natural color back. As they say, it’s just hair. And think about it, at least it’s not green like Anne from Anne of Green Gables! 🙂

    1. Haha that’s true. I like to embellish my stories… it’s my dad’s fault!!! I’m glad to hear that you like the blonde better because for the last week I’ve been wishing I had just kept it. At least I’ve started on the process and will hopefully get a regular blonde color back in no time!! And yes, thank heavens it’s not green. I actually would cry if it were green ha ha!

  9. Oh my no, this is not orange. You are safe. I wish I could show you MY period of orange hair, from when I went from being a chocolate brunette to trying to lighten it back to my ash blonde…oh my, I still shudder to think of it… 🙂

  10. I have hair that tends to go orange too when done the wrong way, so I have always tended to leave it its natural color, (I’m naturally medium blonde.) Your color is a little brassy (it’s not ugly) just definitely a color other then ash or yellow blonde.

About a year and a half ago I had my hair highlighted on a summer whim, and regretted it instantly, I maintained it a couple more times since I hated the roots growing out, but before moving to Korea I bit the bullet and spent a ton of cash at the fancy hair dresser in town and had my hair ombre dyed, where the top was my natural color, and the bottom was light, (I was worried about moving to S. Korea for 3 years, and trying to maintain light hair, since it’s not a common color Korean hairdressers deal with) I haven’t had to color or dye my hair for the last 6 months, and it is still ombre from my natural color to lighter on the ends! I was surprised how it was done, (since when people show tutorials on pinterest it’s not done this way) but the hair dresser dyed my hair darker but in 2 tones (the one on top slightly darker then my natural tone, and on the lower half of my hair about my natural tone) and then she ratted my hair on the bottom until I felt like I had a lions mane, and then bleached the lower part. once washed and brushed out, the different lengths based on levels of being back combed all blended down the length to look like a perfect gradient. My hair has faded on top from slightly darker, to exactly my color (which the hairdresser said it would do) and I love that I can now grow out all the color with no line of dark roots! (although I keep my hair all the way down my back, so it will take awhile before I cut the color out).

    1. Wow, Korea?! What are you doing there? That’s awesome that you found such a great hairdresser. I’ve never seen it done like that before! I’m glad you like it, I’m sure it’s beautiful!

  11. go back and ask her to tone down the brassiness… you may just have a lot of gold tones in your hair that come out–i deal with the exact same thing and this time around my gal added a bit of ashy blonde to the toner process to tone down the brassiness. your hair still looks great, but i know exactly how you feel!! but its totally fixable–just be honest about what you want! good luck, love the style too

    1. So it’s actually been toned already. And the virgin roots are super white. Needless to say there are a bunch of crazy colors in my hair right now! I’ll be back in a month or so and I’ll have her use my natural roots to mix some better colors and blondes in there!

  12. Oh Abby, it's just a warmer blonde then you are used to!! I think it looks so pretty! I would tell you to go back and get it toned if it was "orange" and it's not! It's a slightly warm blonde! Just know you can pull anything off!
