Because two is better than one!

family-4

It’s okay, I didn’t believe it either.  I’m not sure I believe it now!  We’ve been praying for a new little spirit to join our family for a long time now.  I had a heartbreaking miscarriage back in June and I think when we got pregnant again and that little baby realized what was happening, he/she with all the attitude a spirit could muster was like, “no way – I’m going too”!  At least that’s what I like to believe.  So not one, but two new Smith babies will join our family this Spring.

The kids are so excited and they love telling people “My mom has TWO babies in her belly”!  They tell everyone from the cashier at Walmart to the lady who works the register at Wendy’s.  I’m so grateful they’re best friends.  Boston is the sweetest brother to his baby Sav.  He’s adored her from the moment she came home from the hospital and has never been jealous of the attention we give her.  They’re fiercely loyal to one another and I’m grateful that they’ll have each other when the twins (so weird to say that) are babies and I’m a walking zombie.

This right here ^^ is what our love story looks like.  He’s the reason why I know everything will be okay.  He’s the reason why our family is put together and why we’re all so happy.  He sacrifices everyday to make us better, to give us more and I couldn’t live without him.  It’s been pretty much impossible to wrap my brain around having two babies at once.  I’m honestly not sure how people survive it.  I’m absolutely terrified of being out here in Ohio nearly 2,000 miles away from my family and almost 9,000 miles away from my mom.  I can’t even think about it.  But I do know that we’ll survive it.  Just like we survived being super poor college students, just like we survived two kids, grad school, a huge move and all the other little experiences and trials in between.  God is good.  It’s taken me some time to be more excited than scared about what’s about to happen to our family but man, are we excited!  Having two little babies to laugh with, to play with, to get up with and to love is going to be amazing.  There was an overwhelming response to the announcement on instagram this past weekend and I’m so grateful to have you guys in my life.  I hope you are just as excited as I am to start this crazy journey!

  1. I’m late on the congratulations train, but I just stumbled onto your blog for the first time in awhile (I just cut my hair so I’m looking for some inspiration!). I’m a nanny for twin boy babies, and it’s such a wonderful experience. You’ll get through it with the love of your family and friends. Congratulations!

  2. I only just found your blog from a hairstyle tutorial through Pinterest and this is SO gorgeous! Congratulations! I feel like there are so many more twins coming into the world recently! We’re about to start trying for our first little one and I’m a bit nervous about suddenly expecting 2 babies rather than 1!! Hope you’re staying healthy and rested and those gorgeous kids of yours are going to be the best big brother & sister 🙂 xx

  3. ABBY!! Congrats! Wow, two new beautiful babies. Thank you for sharing with us, I’m so excited! I just hollered to my mom, “Abby’s pregnant. With twins!” <–(as if she knows who I'm talking about…) I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriage, but everything happens for a reason!! Xoxo Lauren Michelle

  4. Abby….. We all need the spiritual traction in life. And this sounds like you get the better end if the deal. Joy truly comes from our posterity. Best wishes to you and your family. Merry Christmas and good health to you and your babies.

  5. Yay! Twins are awesome! I have a 3 year old and 17 month old twins, and we are surviving! It is a very cool experience.

  6. Congratulations! And

    I can totally relate.

    Love,

The mom of 5 kids with 5 year old boy twins as #4 and #5.

It is a wonderful and wild ride!

  7. First of all, congratulations!!! (again.. I wrote it on Instagram too, but hey! Two babies require two congrats!! 😉 ) Secondly, so sorry to hear about your miscarriage, that must have been horrible for you. Very glad that you’re getting excited about this now though 🙂 And I’m sure you will manage these babies super well, so don’t worry. I would love to have twins in the future – just imagine the bond they will have, and getting to witness that as a mom I’m sure will be SO extraordinary! (and worth all your zombie days and sleepless nights for sure 😉 ) Wishing you and your lovely family all the best and am super duper looking forward to following your pregnancy on here!! 🙂

  8. Oooh! Congratulations to you all from Finland! I’ve always said that twins are not given to everyone, only to those people who are brave and strong enough 🙂

  9. What wonderful news! I am an identical twin, and my twin sister is my best friend in the whole world, even though we’re now separated by 3000 miles. My mom had us after a big move and with no family, so the situation sounds very familiar. You can do it!

  10. I have three-year-old twin boys and a one-year-old boy and I’m not going to lie it is super exhausting but at the same time there’s just something special about having twins. While you get double the laundry and double the diaper is you also get double the smiles and giggles. If there’s one thing I’ve learned through this it’s that we are resilient and we just do what we have to do to survive. People will always would sayyid you “I don’t know how you do it” and Most days you won’t be sure how you do it either but you just do it what other choice do you have! Good luck!

  11. They are gonna be best friends! What an exciting journey fr your whole family. Start prepping the RS presidency now for dinners and playdates for your “big kids” so mama can get some sleep. One day at a time….you can do it!!

  12. Wow! Congratulations! About three years ago I was in almost the exact same shoes-a 3 year old daughter, 2 year old son, & the shocking but wonderful news that there were 2 little hearts beating in my tummy! It is incredibly difficult for the first year (start planning now for lots and lots of help when they arrive), but nothing compares to the joy of raising twins (along with their slightly older siblings). CONGRATULATIONS!

  13. abby- this is wonderful!!
I honestly feel like people who end up with twins are special parents! It doesn’t surprise me one bit that you two ended up with twins. You my dear are a go getter with such positivity! You will rock it!! Congrats friend!

  14. OHMYGOSH!!!! Congratulations Abby!! I had to do a double take and re-read the post after reading the post! So so so so happy for you all and excited to get swept along on this journey with you and your sweet family!!

  15. Congrats! We found out we were having identical twin girls and it was the shock of our lives! We went from 4 to 6! They are now one and I can’t even tell you how much of a joy they are! I remember crying a lot when we found out, but I can assure you, the anxiety of being pregnant with twins is much worse than the actual reality of taking care of two babies! You will do amazing!
