Juicing

These are vegetables.  Fifty dollars of nothing but organic vegetables.

Why in the world do I need so many vegetables?  I’ve started a juice cleanse.  Let’s be honest, I need to loose the rest of this baby weight…  I can’t handle myself anymore!  Also because juicing is so super healthy for your body.  I wanted something to kickstart myself into the right direction as far as eating healthy goes.  And Jillian Michaels has me covered on the exercise.  Oh she’s a pain in my butt!

The cleanse I am doing can be found at The Belly Fit Club and I’m doing it for five days.

What’s on my diet?

Ohhhh a little bit of this:

and a little bit of this…

That’s beets, kale, celery, apples, carrots, parsley, lemons, yams, pears and cantaloupe.  MMMMM!

It’s actually been a really positive experience so far.  I’m not sure if I’ve lost any weight.  I don’t even own a scale so I borrowed my neighbors this morning.  I won’t weigh in again until Thursday.  As much as I want to loose weight I’m doing this to cleanse my body and kickstart myself into living a healthier lifestyle.  A week before the cleanse I went off all gluten, dairy and sweets.  It was awful.
I’m not craving anything at this point though!  Woot woot!

I’ll keep you posted on how the next few days go!

Any reader ever juiced before?

  1. I stumbled across your blog & I must say that I am in love with it! I just wanted to check in & ask how the juicing cleanse is going? I have thought about doing it but have been too lazy to try!

  2. yes! Juicing is the best! Try sweet potato, apple, orange and ginger. I also recommend beet, carrot, apple ginger and with carrot it’s important to know its filled with fat soluble vitamins so add a bit of flax seed oil (or whatever oil you prefer about 1 tsp per glass) when juicing with carrots to help with absorption! Good luck!

  3. I’m not a juicer . . . I’ve tried. It makes me feel sick. Good luck to you though! Are you planning on staying off of gluten?? My son was just diagnosed with Celiac disease. We start out “gluten free lifestyle” tomorrow. If you have any gf recipes please share!!

  4. I’ve never juiced before, but I am on The Whole 30, so I’ve given up gluten, dairy, sweets, and more! I feel your pain, and the cost of eating healthy is ridiculous. But it’ll be worth it. Good luck!

  5. Get ready for the longest comment ever!

Oh my gosh, Juicing is amazing!! If you have Netflix Instant I would suggest watching Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead.

My husband watched it almost a year ago and it has totally changed us for the better. He gained almost 100 lbs quickly after we were married (mostly due to inactivity) and I gained about 30 lbs as well due to my completely sedentary job (no kids yet). We had been married for three years at this point and we had never taken family pictures or updated our pictures on facebook, because we were so ashamed of our weight gain. We were both the heaviest we had been in our lives.

When he came to me last October (he was so excited he woke me up at 3am on a weekday) and told me about this documentary he had watched, I was skeptical. There are so many ‘get-skinny-quick’ schemes out there that worked initially, (HTC) but then when people returned to their regular diet, the weight just came back. I was so afraid of purchasing a $100+ juicer (that we couldn’t afford) to have it just sit on our counter and not be used.

But my husband is not one to give up and so (as he learned from his lawyer father) he quickly presented me with an air-tight argument. So we compromised and bought a cheapo $30 juicer from WalMart and got to it. I didn’t do it at first, but he jumped so far in that he convinced all of his family to do it and we all got super nice juicers for Christmas from his parents.

Since then he juices all the time and just supplements his diet with nuts and fruits and vegetables, and the occasional actual meal. I usually have a few juices a day, and it is a great way to supplement my breakfasts and to keep the cravings down at the end of the day. I have yet to go full Monty and do a true Juice Cleanse, but the day after Halloween a friend and I are going to do 2 weeks together.

I think the way it has benefitted us the most, is that it has completely changed our diet. To be honest, before, we were never really dessert people. I am lactose intolerant, and my husband doesn’t like pretty much anything with large amounts of sugar in them so desserts are rarely, if ever, in our home. (I wish I had that blessing right?) We were always fruits and vegetable people, but I couldn’t face the idea of a vegetarian meal. It just didn’t seem complete to me. Now we don’t have that problem. We notice that when we have meat (especially red meat) that we don’t feel as good, and we are slower, more tired and cranky. Vegetarian meals are frequent if not often, and we have cut down our meat consumption to once or twice a week and try to keep those times to chicken or fish.

We do still get cravings for red meat (last Friday we went to Inn-N-Out, which is the ONLY fast-food place we go to), but for the first time we feel like we are finally actually obeying the word of wisdom when it says to ‘eat meat sparingly.’

I hope this helps and go you for being healthy!

  6. I did a 10 day juice fast earlier this year. It was hard having nothing but juice for 10 straight days, but I was SO proud of myself when it was over! Luckily we have a farmers market right across the street from our house that’s open every day, and has super cheap produce, so I didn’t have to spend too much on it. I also thought it was funny that week when I took the Sacrament I thought it was the sweetest bread I had ever tasted! When I told my husband he started laughing and told me how stale and nasty it was! (Many people said that later, too!) Good luck! You’re going to love it – at least when it’s over 🙂

  7. my hubby and i would juice a lot actually. i couldn’t ever do just a straight juice diet because my body needed more, but he did and had great results. although i didn’t always love the way it would taste, it definitely helped my body feel great. my go to was tomatoes, carrots, celery, apples, lemon, ginger and lots of spinach. good luck with it!

  8. i have never juiced before but i do have tip. when you are trying to lose weight it is 30% workout and 70% what you eat. so keep that in mind. I just lost 25 pounds before i got pregnant and i did it by counting calories with the lose it app. when the baby comes out, i plan to start up again. i was working out 5 times a week and keeping track of everything i ate. it really helped me make better choices and it helped me stop snacking on the food my son wasn’t finishing. good luck!!
