Brian and I bought this crib three years ago when Boston was born for $95 at Babies R Us. When we found out we were having a little girl I wanted a new white crib so badly. With no income though I knew it wasn't going to happen.
Spray paint. $8.00.
I was a little worried spray painting a crib. I didn't want the paint to peel and I was worried that Savy would chew it off and that it'd end up looking really bad.
I'm so glad I did it! One year later and the paint still looks amazing. None of it is chipping or peeling and Savy doesn't seem to want to chew on anything except my nice coffee table.. ha ha yeah. That's another story for another day. I'm going to attribute the pristine shape of the spray paint to the light coats of polyurethane spray I used at the end. Remember I'm no longer a furniture restoration rookie? Ha ha!!
Isn't the bedding cute? My friend found it for me at TJ Maxx for... what was it... like $25? Maybe it was the $30. THIRTY BUCKS! I couldn't have made my own bedding for thirty bucks. Thanks Alissa! The style has been out for a couple years and they're selling it right now on Amazon for $80.

ok...totally LOVE the crib and the dresser. I am also trying to refinish my baby's crib, would you be able to post a simple step by step? what brand of paint did you use? did you have to prep the wood? tips please...
ReplyDeleteHi Katie!! It was so simple. I just roughed up the crib with some light grit sand paper. You don't want to use heavy grit or it will scratch and leave marks on your wood. Your goal with the sandpaper is only to roughen up the wood enough that the paint will adhere nicely. Most paints though adhere very well so you could probably even skip this step. After you roughen up your crib, you'll want to wash off all the residue (I used tack cloths. You can buy them at Walmart but it's not necessary at all) and then I sprayed mine with the Rostoleum White spray paint with primer. I think it says 2X on the can for double the coverage. It's one of the only white cans you'll find at home depot! I want to say I gave it three coats of the white. And you'll want to spray 12" away from the crib or you'll get drips. After it had all dried I LIGHTLY sprayed it with some polyurethane spray. Be careful with the polyurethane because if you put it on too thick it will leave the crib looking a little yellowey. So just super light with that!! Good luck!! Let me know if you have any other questions!
