Ok. I lied. These aren’t Texas Roadhouse Rolls. They’re my great-great grandma’s rolls. But they totally rival Texas Roadhouse Rolls. THEY ARE SO GOOD. This recipe is so versatile. We use it for rolls, bread, cinnamon rolls, pizza dough blah blah. It works for everything! Takes five minutes to throw in your bread maker, 2 hours of bread maker magic, 10 minutes to roll up and 15 minutes to cook. That really equals 15 minutes of you needing to be in the kitchen! Who doesn’t love that right?!
I’m having serious issues with blogger so sorry if the layout is a little… off!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/3 sugar
- 1 egg (break up yolk)
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 cups flour
- 1 Tbs yeast
Directions:
- Add all the ingredients- in order- to your bread maker and set to dough setting!
- Roll into balls in a muffin tin
- Bake at 370 for 10-ish minutes or until golden brown
Then add 1/4 cup melted butter
Next, add in your 1/3 cup sugar
Break up the yolk of one egg and add it to bread maker
Add 1 tsp salt
Add 4 cups flour
And finally, add 1 Tbs yeast
Put them in the oven and when they come out they should be so delicious! These ones look a little funny because my cute nieces rolled the last batch and I forgot to take pictures of the first batch- of course!
Oh my gosh! I made these rolls today and they are amazing!
I was wondering how you make this dough into cinnamon rolls or regular bread.
Thank you so much.
Have you tried adding herbs (fresh or dried) to this recipe? I was hoping to bring Rosemary dinner rolls to a gathering using my bread machine, and saw your post, it looks to be just what I need.
How many rolls/muffins do you get from one 2 lb. recipe?
is this supposed to be a really soft, wet dough in the breadmaker? Or do I need to add extra flour until it’s not so wet? I have it in my breadmaker now and hoping they turn out ok!
Do you use all purpose flour or bread flour? Also, do you use the yeast for bread machines?
Thanks.
Thanks for the recipe. I made them today and they are so good. I made rolls and cinnamon rolls. Your Grandma would be proud that your family has passed down the recipe through so many generations. I wonder if it was her GGGrandma’s recipe too!
Looking for a dinner roll recipe – came across yours and decided to try the recipe! Decided to make 1/2 into rolls gorgeous dinner and cinnamon rolls from the other 1/2. HUGE HIT- between my husband and teenage son not much left for breakfast and all the rolls disappeared quickly! Thank you for sharing
Can this be cooked in the bread maker or will it spill over?
Thank you for posting the Best Bun Recipe Ever! I came across it 1 month ago and have made buns 4 times and they are awesome everytime and loved by all! Perfect and Easy, thanks so much for sharing xx
if you add 2 teaspoons Vital Wheat Gluten, you get a softer bread, crumb, and it stays fresh longer. (2 lb )
This sounds really good and will be trying it.
Should the milk be warm?
Loved the rolls specially after brushing with butter …my son ate almost all of it. Gone in 24h…Anyone make this into a loaf yet?
just pulled a pan from the oven and they are delicious; wi make for my holiday dinners.
1. Can I use this recipe for hamburger buns?
2. What would be the baking/rolling instructions then?
I made these about a week ago for my husband and I and they were amazing!!!! My husband is in love!!! We are having the family over tonight and making them again. This recipe is a keeper and will be a regular in our house. Thanks for sharing!!!
Made these today. Yummo!
Do you use milk right from the fridge or have to warm it first?
Totally easy and Awesome!
Which kind of flour should you use?
Just regular white flour. I’m interested to see what whole wheat flour would do though!
So Good! This took all the guess work out of it. I used half whole wheat flour. Mostly so I could tell myself I could eat more of them. Good thing, my 3 year old and I ate them up! Now I’m ready to try more with my bread machine. Thanks!
6L’s, I’m totally gonna have to try that! Seems like it’d be, DUH! haha but this whole rolling technique is something we’ve just done in our family for so long I never thought about doing it ‘easier’! ha ha! Chelsey, I’m so glad you loved them! Yeah butter always helps. Sometimes even a little more salt!!
Lovely blog!!!
I also have a blog dedicated to Organizing/Home decor/DIY and more. I hope you’ll stop by to check it out sometime

I really need a bread maker!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
I made these tonight for my family for Sunday dinner, they definitely were a hit. I wish i had brushed some butter on them when they were fresh out of the oven.
Nonetheless, everyone should try them!

YUM!!
oh abby, there is a much easier, faster way to make those little dough balls. break the dough into 4 big balls, squeeze the dough through your thumb and pointer finger (like you touched the tips togather to make a circle)and pinch off. you’ll fly through those balls and leave a lot more fluffiness to them. yum, i love fresh rolls!!
Now I wish I’d asked Santa for a bread maker. Those look good~
These look great! I am off to try them now! I am also have a homemade year in 2012 on my blog Blissful and Domestic. I would love for you to link these up to my Homemade Year linky party. These look great!
