Double Braided Messy Bun

pinterest2

This hairstyle is a total keeper!  I’ve been wearing my hair back a lot lately and practicing different, creative ways to get my hair outta my face.  This one works with freshly washed hair, super disgusting greasy hair, it’s really quick despite the intricate looking braids, and well, it get’s your hair out of your face!  I hope you love the tutorial, it’s very straight forward.

Step-by-step instructions:

1| Pull bangs back into a pompador or leave them down if you’d prefer
2| About an inch back from your front part, section off some hair bringing the part line back in a diagonal
3| Dutch french braid the bottom section.  Remember, a dutch french braid is where you braid the outer strands under the middle instead of over.  When you reach the middle of your head turn it into a three strand braid and tie off
4| Fluff out the braid
5-6| Repeat for the top section of hair
7| Gather the top braid and hair from the other side and turn it into a messy bun (watch tutorial if you wanna know how I do it :))
8| Repeat with the second bun on bottom, this time starting the bun further over to the left so the bun is at a diagonal

When you’re finished with the buns go ahead and take some bobby pins and smush the buns together making them look like one large bun instead of two smaller ones.  Also spread apart the braids enough so that it covers the diagonal part line.

  1. Love it!! I am so glad I found your website – it’s like a magical world to me! Haha… i never could do my hair other than a boring pony tail or straightened so i kept it short & very 1 style cuts. I grew my hair out as I got bored & just when I was about to chop it off I found your website & am now inspired!! I can’t believe I can do a french braid on myself, let alone a dutch braid now & even side fancy ones! My girls love it too so thanks so much for the inspiration & teaching! Love to see your belly grow – my baby is becoming a little boy too fast & I find myself wishing for pregnancy & newborns so I’m living thru you!! 3 is enough for me! You’re beautiful!!

  2. Hi Abby! I love your blog and creativity! Loved this hairstyle too…I’m going to try this today. As a mom to four delicious kiddies, I too love to keep my hair out of my face. Have a wonderful day, friend!
