Day 10- Plain Jane

IMG_9159

I refuse to give up my winter clothes until it’s boiling.  I have so many cute fall/winter clothes!  And then summer comes and it looks like I’m half homeless!  I love summer.  When I can be in a pool.  Or laying out by a pool.  Or eating ice cream inside an air conditioned house looking out at a pool… ha ha!  Fall and Spring.  Those are my months.  And I am refusing to give up my long sleeves and layers until it’s boiling!

I think most of you guys know how to do this already.  I put my hair half up, leaving less than an inch of hair above my ears down.  Then I took those hairs that I left down and I just wrapped them around the elastic band and pinned them.  My hair is slightly curled, which I showed you how I curl my hair in the last few minutes of the day 7 throwback video.  All that’s different is I brushed out the curls so they weren’t as prominent.  I will be posting a better tutorial though on curls. So if you can, hang on a minute!  I really love doing these hairstyles back to back because yesterday I curled my hair and today it was still curled from yesterday.  Took five seconds.  Pretty awesome.  I would suggest that when you wash your hair, you come up with some styles that compliment each other.  So for example, if I’m going to wash my hair I will leave it down on day 1.  Day 2 I’ll maybe curl it and put the bangs back.  Day 3 I’ll brush out the curls and put it half up.  Day 4 I’ll do some type of braid or ponytail.  That way you’re not washing your hair, putting it up and having to wash it the next day because it’s flat and all kinky.  Because remember how we’re going to try not washing our hair everyday?  Remember?  I know it’s hard.  I’m totally here for you.  It gets easier.  And easier.  Then all of a sudden it doesn’t take you an hour to get ready anymore and you have all this spare time and you’re like, “why in the world did I not do this sooner”.  Plus your hair will be so healthy- it will love you.

Ha ha, I’m done with my rant.  Love you!

  1. Okay so seriously, you are like my favorite blogger right now! I am totally obsessed with the 30 days of hairstyles!! But I have a question about the whole not washing your hair all the time thing…how did your husband like the time while your hair was adjusting to not being washed every other day? I just feel like I’m going to take my hair down for bed and my hubby will be like “eww” in his head (because he would hopefully not say that to my face! lol) Did you like baby powder it or use any other tricks? Or did you just rely on that whole “for better or worse” part of the vows? (I know this is kind of a weird question but I just need some calming-of-my-fears lol)

  2. Just found your blog and I love your 30 days of hair. Awesome! I’m a cosmetologist and am impressed with what you have been coming up with. Way to go on promoting not washing your hair every day. I hate hate hate feeling greasy so I use a dry shampoo in between washes. My personal favorite called Dirty Secret by Rockaholic. Try it! You will freaking love it. It makes your scalp feel fresh, smell good and even adds a little volume. Love the blog!

p.s. I saw you met your hubster at suu. I am from cedar and live there now. One more reason to love your blog right!

  3. That’s a lot of hair Jacki! After the 30 days I’m going to steal my sister who has shorter hair, and we’re going to come up with a bunch of cute styles! So stick around!

Denise, I just emailed you back!

Danielle- thanks for giving me that award! So sweet of you! I’m totally honored!

To the rest of you lovelies- I freakin’ LOVE you! Thanks for the comments! They make my day!

  4. I would also like to know how you do your bangs! I love the side swept bangs and off center part. I just never quite get that right though.

  5. Ok, question. Why are we trying not to wash our hair every day? I love the way your hair looks. I like how shiny it is, and more importantly, when you braid it it doesn’t look like it has a 2″ layer of frizz on top. So what am I doing wrong that my hair looks like I ran in to an electric fence? Does it have to do with the not washing it all the time? I wash my hair once a day, and if I skip a day I will just wear it up. I have very straight, thin hair. Please help!

And thanks for the inspiration and the tutorials! Right now my hair is french-braided, for the FIRST TIME EVER! I’m excited to keep trying more styles!

  6. I love the hairstyles you have been posting! I recently donated a lot of hair to locks of love (3 heads worth o.o) I was happy to do it but now I have no idea what to do with my hair! It’s about shoulder length now, and very thick so I can adapt some of the styles you have posted insead of doing the same old ponytail every day. Awesome blog!

  7. I became a follower of yours a couple of days ago from a blog hop. I do not know if you have had a moment to follow me back or not, but I wanted to ask you if you would be interested in receiving some of the hair accessories I sell. I would send them to you for free (you get to pick the items too) if you would be so kind to use them in your hairstyles that you post on your blog. I would love to see what you could do with them. You are very creative. You could contact me via my website (www.lillarose.biz/DeniseMartin) by clicking on the envelop at the bottom right hand side of my site and that way neither of us has to publicly list our e-mail address. I hope you get a moment to stop by my blog too https://talesfrommyjournal.blogspot.com

  8. Thanks for voting! 🙂 And I wore my hair in a pony tail or bun all the time! It will take at least a few weeks for the oils in your hair to stop producing as much. It does depend on the person though too, so it could take more or less. If you wash your hair every day, start out by washing it every other day. Let your hair get used to that so that it isn’t gross on day two. Then go three days. Maybe go three and then back to two, three and then back to two. You want your hair to get used to it. After three isn’t so hard, go up to four. After four my hair is usually pretty gross! I will sometimes brush some of my face powder in the roots of my hair to take out some of the shine. Is that gross? Ha ha, cause I totally do! But I have blonde hair and can get away with that! Anyway, go slowly! You’ll get there!

  9. Just found your blog and am a new follower! (I just voted too btw) I wash my hair ever other day…but of I wait longer it looks terrible – how long did it take your hair to “get used” to not washing as much and what did you do with when it was in the “adjusting” phase?

  10. Caley, the bangs are all in how I blow them dry! I’ll post a video for ya! And I don’t trim them myself… that would be bad!! ha ha, I’ve done it before and totally botched them! Micah, I know what the whole grease monkey thing feels like… ha ha! But I promise if you go one extra day each time before you wash it, your hair will stop producing as much oil. PROMISE! You’ve just got to get over that initial gross feeling! ha ha!! And Brigg, when I do the bang tutorial, I’ll show you how I rat it! It’s nothing special, but I’ll throw it in there!! Give me a few days though! And Rebekah, thanks for voting! You’re awesome!

  11. Hi, just found your blog, and I love all the cute hairstyles. You are so cute and talented! One thing I would love to see a tutorial for is how to get volume at the crown, in order to get that “poof” that is so popular. I’ve tried it, but it never looks quite right.

  12. love the simpleness!
so, i’m obsessed with your bangs 😉 do you cut them yourself? would it be lame to ask for a tutorial or how you make them look so great all the time? mine need help! thanks!
