Pattern Mixing and a Nomination

You guys!  I’ve been nominated for the 2014 Utah Style Icon Award!!  Fashion doesn’t come naturally to me.  We’ve talked about this before!  My two best friends are fashion bloggers, Merricks Art and Leanne Barlow, and their styles are effortless.  It takes them two seconds to throw an outfit together and they truly understand fashion.  They know what patterns and fabrics compliment each other and they are layering and accessorizing ninjas.  It’s not that way with me.  It takes me awhile to put together a creative outfit, I’m always second guessing my choices and my personal style is something that is always evolving.  I just can’t pin it down!  I was curious as to why I had be nominated for something that I still don’t completely understand and so I looked up the word personal style.  Personal style can be described as the expression of your personality, tastes and preferences as reflected in your decor, clothing and beauty choices.  Style isn’t niched with fashion.  I was immediately relieved and thought, oh hey!  I could be worthy of a style award!  I mean seriously, NOBODY —  NOBODY knows hair like Twist Me Pretty!  haha!  While I may not be the most fashionable blogger out there, I do know a lot about character and beauty and I hope that my tastes and preferences are reflected in what I show you here on the blog.  I no longer feel like I’m unworthy of this award — I’m actually really excited about it!

If you’d like to see Twist Me Pretty win the 2014 Utah Style Icon Award hop on over to this post here and vote for little ole’ me.  I’m really honored to have been nominated and grateful and shocked that I’ve been put in the same pool as some of the other amazing Utah fashion bloggers.

Don’t forget — Vote here!

This is the first post I’ve done with short hair…

What are your thoughts?  I do miss my old hair but not as much as I thought I would.  It still fits in a top knot and that’s usually how I wear it during the week with my kids (naughty naughty twist me pretty) so I haven’t noticed a huge change.  It feels so healthy though and I’m loving the flirty look.  One thing that’s annoying is that I have to curl my hair everyday if I want it styled.  Because it’s not long, the curls won’t stay overnight.  The entire reason for the cut was to get my hair healthy again so you can believe I won’t be putting heat on it every day or even every other for that matter.  I’m working on a few things and learning to figure out what I can and can’t do with this length.  Overall it hasn’t rocked my world like I thought it would.  I’m really loving it some days and then really missing my long healthy hair other days.

I’m really trying to embrace a more casual style this summer.  I was going to wear these suuuper cute wedges but they’re really tall so I opted for the smaller more comfortable ones.  These wedges I’m wearing are quickly becoming my everyday shoe.  I found some copy-cats at Old Navy but they were so uncomfortable.  These ones are really soft and the heel isn’t stiff at all.  Also, do you guys recognize the bag?  It was in a wish list post last week and I finally just bought it.  I love the color so much, it seriously goes with everything!

Alright, I’ve been super chatty so I’ll let you go!  See you next week!  Mmmkloveyoubye!

  1. yay for you! I love the shorter look – it looks far more natural, healthy and flirty/fun!
PLUS it’s a bonus for me because now you have MY length hair! There were lots of styles I loved but my hair was just too short to pull it off properly so I’m really excited about what new “do’s” you’ll invent for you new hair length 🙂

  2. Have you tried headband curls? they are super easy and heat free! I have started to put my hair in the headband at night and have super poofy curls in the morning..no heat, no product 🙂 love your site!

  3. You need to look up dressing your truth(dressingyourtruth.com). It’s all about helping women find their own sense of style and helping them to feel their best. Seriously it’s amazing. Just try it. For me, pleaseeeeee?? 🙂 I would love to know what you think! (I’m not affiliated in any way, I just love it!!)

  4. Hi Abby,

Loving your new do! Voted for you…fingers crossed!

I shared a link to your 2 minute braided bun instructions on my blog today. My hair turned out great! Thank you for your continued high quality, easy to follow hairstyle tutorials.

    1. I still have like 6 long hairstyle tutorials in que. I’ll be mixing them with the shorter tutorials but hopefully my hair will grow fast and I’ll be back to doing the long haired tutorials!!!

  5. Congratulations on your nomination. I too recently lost my long hair; I donated it in honor of a friend’s fight with breast cancer and ended up with a do about your length. I am beyond excited to see what advice and tutorials you discover for on the go and healthy styles with this length.

    1. Jalynn, you are seriously THEEEEE sweetest, ever in the whole world!! I wish we were able to chat more at BYB, I think we need to get together for a lunch date soon?!

  6. My hair is about the same length as yours and I have found that pulling my hair up in a loose bun at night using 4 to 5 small claw clips helps keep my curls for the next day. I take it down in the morning warm some argon oil in my hands and gently run my fingers through my hair. sometimes I still need to touch up a few places and the curls are somewhat looser than the day before but for the most part it works. Maybe this would work for you as well. Congrats on the nomination and I’m going to vote for you right now 🙂

  7. I love your style! It’s so much more realistic to me as a mom. I *cant* layer or accessorize too much because it’s so dang hot where I live. Love that top!

  8. You have such good style! I get what you mean though. I love fashion and love the idea of putting great outfits together, but when I try to create something it takes for-ev-er. Then I don’t like it and start all over again. Ugh. Congrats on the nomination…I’ll go vote for you!

  9. Congrats on the nomination! You totally get my vote! And I love your hair. 🙂 I’m sure it’s an adjustment. I always put off cutting mine, and it gets really long. I like it long, but my husband prefers it your length. Seeing yours, I know I need to get over there and get it cut!
