I Heart Naptime's Homemade Lemon Playdough Recipe www.TwistMePretty.com

Hi friends! I’m Jamielyn Nye from I Heart Naptime, where you’ll find easy and delicious recipes, free weekly meal plans and entertaining ideas to help families create unforgettable moments. I’m a mom of 4, cookbook author and a big fan of naptime and chocolate. Most days you”ll find me in the kitchen whipping up family-friendly recipes, including some of my favorites from the I Heart Naptime cookbook. All 100 recipes can be made in less than ONE hour and are simple enough for the beginner cook.

With 4 littles at home, I’ve been busy coming up with ideas to keep them busy during this break! Today I thought I’d share with you one of our favorite indoor activities to make. PLAYDOUGH!

I have my traditional homemade playdough recipe on my blog, but thought it would be fun to share a lemon version for Spring. It’s so simple to make and I bet you already have the ingredients in your pantry.

Lemon Playdough Ingredients

First things first. Gather your supplies to make sure you have everything on hand.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup salt
  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil (coconut oil works too)
  • Yellow food coloring
  • Lemon essential oils (optional)

How to make lemon playdough

In a pot stir together the flour, salt and cream of tartar. Then add the water, oil, 10 drops of essential oils and food coloring. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly.

Once the mixture has thickened, remove from heat and onto the counter or wax paper. Allow to cool and then knead until smooth.

Once itโ€™s all mixed together get out your rolling pins, cookie cutters and get ready to PLAY.

Store the play dough inside a covered container or zip top bags once done to keep soft. Keeps for up to 3 months.

Here are some more ideas to make with the kids

  • Cake mix cookies – only 3 ingredients and a great recipe for kids to make on their own.
  • Homemade slime – another one of my kids favorite activities.
  • Artisan bread – a great recipe for kids and beginner bakers. You only need one bowl, 3 ingredients and 5 minutes.

Just remember whatever you’re making, to HAVE FUN! Thanks for having me today! ๐Ÿ™‚
