To infinity and beyond! This year’s family halloween costume theme was so much fun to put together! Now that there are more of us, it’s getting trickier to find a theme we can all participate in. But that’s ok, we just need to get more creative as the years go on. I love the characters from Toy Story, and the message that the movies share with everyone. Plus, who doesn’t dream about being Barbie for a few hours? Here’s our Toy Story family Halloween costumes.
When I started trying to come up with our costume theme this year, I knew I wanted to do something fun. There are so many fun themes out there to choose from. Last year the kids and I did Harry Potter characters, and when the kids were little we were Ghostbusters one year! It’s become one of our favorite family traditions and I’m so glad that Matt and the kids were up for joining in on it this year.
2020 has been a year of ups and downs. What movie better represents the growing pains of getting older and changing better than Toy Story? The toys all have to deal with the changes of their humans outgrowing them. Anyone else totally tear up at the end of Toy Story 3 when Andy moves away to college?? Just me? *sniff* *sob* It’s fine. I’m sure my kids will never grow up, right? Lol.

Anyways, now that we had our theme we had to decide who would be which character. I knew Matt and I would be Barbie and Ken, so I needed to figure out who the kids would be. The twins, Kai and Cooper as the Slinky Dog was a perfect choice for them! Those boys are crazy and keep me on my toes day in and day out, so it was actually kind of nice to have them attached to each other for a little while! It was definitely easier to keep track of them that way.
Boston was Rex, the dinosaur. The blow up dino costume was so funny. The twins kept trying to tackle his tail any chance they could get! Of course we had to have Mollie be Little Bo Peep, and her sheep happened to look a lot like our dog, Wrigley, but we did our best!
Last but not least, we had Woody and Buzz. All of my girls have become the best of friends since we started blending our families and I love seeing their relationship develop. Savvy was sooo excited about having purple glitter in her hair to represent Buzz’s purple helmet. And I love how Demi’s Woody costume turned out! It was the perfect mix of girly and cowboy.
For our Pixar clouds, I asked my brother in law to cut out the shapes for us and then we taped them onto some large dowels and sticks I had from an old teepee. They worked great! It was the perfect touch for our Toy Story family Halloween costumes. I can’t wait to do this again next year! What should we be?
